The Office for Type Design, Typography and Research creates spaces for sharing knowledge, discussing ideas and exploring type and typography through conversation, hands-on practice and exchange. Teaching, workshops and speaking are an integral part of this practice, creating opportunities to engage with different perspectives and to explore ideas beyond the boundaries of commissioned work. Talks, workshops and teaching provide opportunities to share ongoing research, test ideas and engage with different perspectives, while conversations with students, designers and practitioners continue to inform the wider practice. The office is open to teaching opportunities, workshops, lectures and conversations around type design, typography and research.
Press / Recognition
Across the years, projects and typefaces developed by the Office for Type Design, Typography and Research have found their way into international publications, exhibitions and platforms dedicated to type, typography and contemporary design. The work has been published and discussed by institutions, independent publishers and fellow designers, including ECAL, Slanted, Sorry Press, TypeHelper and others. The practice has received recognition through awards and honours, including a TDC Award for World’s Best Typography and the Teaching Award of the Faculty of Art and Design at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. Selected projects and typefaces have also been featured in publications such as Type Bulletin, New Aesthetic, A Typographic Atlas and The World’s Best Typography.
Exhibitions
Moving between design, art and publishing, the work has been presented in exhibition contexts around the world. Projects by Marcel Saidov have been shown in collaboration with established museums, galleries, universities and cultural institutions across Europe, North America and Asia, creating different contexts for engaging with type, typography and research. These exhibitions allow typographic work to be approached beyond its functional application, bringing it into dialogue with art, design, publishing and contemporary visual culture. From museums and galleries to universities and independent exhibition spaces, the diverse settings reflect an ongoing interest in how type and typography can be presented, experienced and understood as part of a wider artistic practice.
Publications
Publishing is an integral part of the practice, providing a space to develop, communicate and share work across type design, typography and research. It extends the practice beyond individual commissions and creates opportunities to make ideas, findings and typographic work accessible to a wider audience. Publications include independently developed and collaboratively produced typefaces, as well as editorial and research-based projects developed in collaboration with universities, cultural institutions and other partners. These projects bring together typographic practice, research and experimentation, often emerging from academic and institutional contexts as well as independently initiated work.
Selected Clients
Working predominantly within a cultural context, the practice collaborates with artists, writers, designers, cultural institutions, publishers and other practitioners whose work shapes contemporary visual culture. Through type design and typography, these collaborations contribute to how cultural ideas, positions and forms of expression are communicated and perceived. Language is at the centre of this work — not only as a carrier of meaning, but as a visual and material form. Type and typography become tools for translating ideas into visual identities, publications and other forms of communication, helping cultural projects develop a distinct voice and presence.
